An update on the mural plan

A lot of people in Wayne missed out on a pretty good show Wednesday night.
Joshua Winer and David Fichter were at the Wayne 20/20 Committee meeting to discuss ideas they had for the remaining four panels of the mural on the side of the State Wayne Theater.
The 20/20 Committee had a quorum, which I was also relieved to see. City Councilman Al Damitio was there, as was City Attorney Dick Clark and—a surprise for me, State Rep. Marc Corriveau (D-Northville). He has met with a couple 20/20 Committee members in recent weeks.
He got quite a history lesson—as did I.
I’ve talked with the muralists before, of course, and been impressed with the zest and professionalism they’ve showed in this project. Wednesday was no different. I’d be willing to bet they know more about the history and characters of Wayne after their brief visit than the majority of residents. Watching them talk with people like Matt Miller, Hal Hultman, Clark and more—it was like a history jam session.
It would have gone a long way to soothing the critics of this project—if they’re still out there.
Fichter and Winer are still open to suggestions about the details of the mural—they incorporated new ideas even as they finished up the first phase of the project when they were in town last year. Anyone is welcome to call the community development department at (734) 722-2002.
The muralists will be back in town to finish the project near the end of May. I’ll have more on the proposal in the paper this week.
