Subtle signs of hope

A picture perfect Saturday evening provided the backdrop for one of my new favorite activities: house hunting on a bike.
I’m hoping to defy the market this year and make a move and would like to stay here in Wayne. Riding down the streets really gives you a sense of the neighborhood, too, particularly when the weather has broken and all the kids are out playing or their parents are out sprucing up their yards.
My journey took me down Laurenwood Street (I am, perhaps, a bit too ambitious in the size and price of home I’d like to get) and it didn’t take long to see why that street is one of the first that will get fixed up through a combination of federal grants and road millage money. The surface of the moon is probably smoother. My old school mountain bike did little to absorb the shocks and I soon found myself grateful that I’m not planning on having another child. And this is the ‘high rent’ district.
Still, there were plenty of small positive signs for the housing market. I saw several people driving around and checking out the many homes up for sale. Maybe things will turn around this year, despite of what everyone else is predicting.
