A good discussion on Oakwood

It came as no surprise to find a packed room at the Canton Planning Commission last night.
The new Oakwood Health Care facility was on the agenda, an issue that brought up plenty of concern from impacted Canton residents last time around.
Oakwood officials put out plenty of information during their first go around about a year ago; they had plans, a dedicated web site and more.
This time they took the opposite approach with their new site, which is about a mile south of the first, moving it from the heart of a residential district to the southern portion of it. They put out a plan with three different-colored development zones on the 140-acre parcel. It will essentially serve as a transition use between the huge, ugly warehouse at Michigan and Beck to the homes to the north.
The planning commission did the best they could with the request for preliminary approval; they tacked on conditions to expand the greenbelt between the facility and the homes and requested Oakwood meet with residents for a design charette to ease further concerns.
The site is a better location than the last one, but I wish they had provided more details about the development. They can say they don’t have a plan drawn up all the want, but I doubt that. I think they have a pretty good idea of what they want to do, and when they want to do it.
