Election season update

With a few hours left to file, a Republican has emerged to challenge Marc Corriveau (D-Northville) for the 20th District in the House of Representatives.
Abe Munfakh, a Plymouth Township resident and former member of the Board of Trustees, has filed to run for the seat.
The filing deadline is at 4 p.m. today and it’s possible that another candidate could emerge—maybe someone from one of the ‘lesser’ parties or an independent—but I doubt it.
It’ll be interesting to see how the state elections turn out this year. There are some similarities in the overall political feelings now and the ones two years ago, when Democrats took control of the House—and Corriveau won the seat in the heavily-Republican district. President George Bush suffers from historically low approval ratings. Of course, Gov. Jennifer Granholm hasn’t exactly been uber-popular, either.
Both parties have plenty to complain about and plenty of blame to throw around. That’ll probably continue no matter who’s in the seat when the dust—and muck—settles.
