Fumin' and fuelin'

We had a large family get together over the weekend and the main topic of conversation was the cost of gas.
With relatives driving in from all over metro Detroit—and from as far away as Lansing and Big Rapids—it’s really no wonder.
“I guess we won’t be seeing too much of you kids, with the price of gas and all,” my grandmother told me, a glum look on her lined face. They live about 175 miles north of here.
It almost seemed like they envied me when I told them how much it cost to fill up my car, but when I dumped $45 into my Ford Escort, I considered it a sign of the apocalypse. This whole $4 for a gallon of gas just burns me, too. The way they talk about the price of gas is one of the greatest marketing moves of all time. We’ve been paying well over $4 a gallon for months, now, since the advertised price is only for 9/10 of a gallon.
This is really hurting people and it wouldn’t surprise me to find out it’s a part of the overall Republican agenda—on a national scale. We all get these government incentive checks and have to put it into our gas tanks—and give it to the oil makers. As election day nears, the price will dip down, but who will care to listen anymore?
