On the cusp of change

There will soon be a sort of changing of the guard here in Wayne that may be a prelude to a major transition in town.
Pastor Dave Stewart of the First United Methodist Church and Fr. Jack Baker of St. Mary’s will soon be leaving their respective congregations. Stewart’s last Sunday is this week, Father Jack will be around until the end of the month.
I talked with Dave for a story for this week. He’s a pretty interesting guy. He initially felt the call when he was 16, but, as he put it: ‘ran from it for the next 19 years.’ In the meantime, he worked in the government sector as a planner and controller.
That’s just one of the way God works, you know. He’s showing that if He can turn around a government worker, there’s hope for all of us.
Seriously, though, both have had a long, positive impact in the community and it’ll be sad to see them go. The residents of Flora Lane are doing a bit of a send off for Pastor Dave tonight; the city council will have a brief thank you on Tuesday for their contributions to the community. And, of course, everyone is welcome at the church.
