The Comcast building on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Wayne Road (far right) will join the string of vacant and available property at the end of the month.
“Another vacant one, huh?” The elderly man said to me today.
It was about 15 minutes ago and I was snapping photos of the newest vacant building in the heart of downtown Wayne. Well, nearly vacant, anyway. Officials from Comcast told city people about a week ago that they were going to close down the building at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Wayne Road at the end of the month.
“I guess so,” I answered. “It’s a shame.”
He was just coming to the building to pay his bill. There was plenty of other foot traffic in and out of the structure, too, which is ironic because the lack of foot traffic is one of the reasons Comcast people gave in their justification of closing the building.
The city will have the first right to buy it, but I’m not sure how that could happen. It’s a tight budget year, after all, and most of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) money goes into the general fund.
