At their meeting last Wednesday some members of the Wayne 20/20 Committee asked for a simple thing: they wanted to have the agendas for meetings available on the web site.
It’s a pretty common practice; in many places you can not only find the agenda, but all the background information online, too. That’s modern government for you.
Well, it sounds pretty simple, anyway. In Wayne they had to receive and file the recommendation from the committee in order to have the city administration determine how much it ‘costs.’
Ironically, Bob English, the assistant city manager, was sitting in the audience next to his friend Ron Baker, who received the no-bid contract to update the web site. He gets paid a stipend per month that, on an annual basis adds up to more than most Wayne resident make in a year full of 40 hour work weeks.
What does it cost to open up the government a little bit? Nothing! I don’t see why the council can’t make a simple resolution like that.
