Master Plan process continues tonight

There is a special planning commission meeting tonight in the City of Wayne.
You can’t tell from the posting on the city web site, but it’s a continuation of the discussion that started last week about the master plan process. The commission heard presentations from two firms, Langworthy, Strader and Leblanc (LSL) Planning and Carlisle-Wortman Associates last week. This week, they’ll (hopefully) come up with a recommendation and talk about the scope of the work.
I’d prefer LSL over Wortman. LSL has done work for Northville Township and they know their stuff. They’re big on feedback and input. Wortman, who does work in the City of Plymouth and Belleville, has always used a cookie-cutter approach. They take boiler plate things from other communities and make them fit in the one they’re working on.
This is supposed to be just a downtown master plan, but I think the commission should look at the entire Downtown Development Authority District, as opposed to the area that’s typically considered the downtown. This is the first time this has been looked at in 40 years, after all. You might as well get as big a window as you can.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at city hall.
