Most of the results are in and the future of many communities in western Wayne County is taking shape. We’re going to wait until morning to start posting numbers (everything makes more sense in the daylight). Here are some preliminary results:
In Canton Township, the biggest surprise was the loss of incumbent Trustee Karl Zarbo. Incumbent Todd Caccamo was the top vote-getter, followed by newcomers John Anthony, Pat Williams and Syed Taj. Phil LaJoy won the supervisor seat in a race that was probably closer than most people anticipated.
In Northville Township, Carol Poenisch was disappointed to learn that all of her efforts to stave off the annexation of the former Northville Psychiatric Hospital property weren’t enough to get her elected to office. Mindy Hermann was the top vote getter there, followed by Marjorie Banner, Marv Gans and Chris Roosen.
Jim Plakas won the judicial seat at the 35th District Court. Marc Corriveau (D-Northville) beat challenger Jerry Vorva with relative ease and Todd LaJoy seemed to have the upper hand in the 20th District House of Representatives, although Van Buren Township results had yet to come in when I wrote this.
In county races, Laura Cox was successful in her re-election bid, while Kevin McNamara easily triumphed over Steve Johnson to earn a second term on the commission.
