Too big, or not too big?

Members of the Northville City Council, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the planning commission got together last night to discuss possible changes to the DDA boundaries.
The discussion was at times interesting, but I was disappointed to see less than a handful of people in the audience. I hope this doesn’t turn out to be like other things that have happened in the city, where residents only show up to complain at the 11th hour and then gripe about how they weren’t informed earlier.
As far as expanding the boundaries, I understand the desire behind it—to add areas such as Mill Race Village and the open space behind city hall to the district and therefore be able to fund activities there—but I’m not sure if this is the right time for it. Those areas don’t generate any tax revenue, anyway, so it wouldn’t bring in more revenue, only expense.
This sounds like a move to make when the capital improvement projects are done and the DDA can turn its focus to events and marketing, and I’m not sure they’re there yet.
