More support for the school board

Members of the Wayne City Council voiced their support for the Wayne-Westland School Board Tuesday night, and it was nice to see.
Councilman Al Damitio brought it up when he urged Wayne residents not to participate in the silly recall effort against some of the school board members. (Silly is my word for it, not Damitio’s).
His point was that the recall effort hinders the job they’re trying to do in providing the best education they can for the students.
Mayor Al Haidous summed it up this way: It could divide the community at a time when we should all be pushing for unity.
The city and the school district work together on a lot of things—they recently approved a new agreement that would continue their joint funding of police officers at Adams Middle School and Wayne Memorial High School—and it looks like this kind of support will be important, too.
I wouldn’t mind seeing the counsel put together a resolution in support of the school board, come to think of it.
