Strange to have a Grateful Dead song running through my brain the day after the Wayne city administration outlined some of the budget challenges they will face next year.
Things will be difficult, there’s no mistake about that. Through falling property values, tax appeals and the loss of personal property taxes levied on equipment at the Michigan Truck Plant, officials in the City of Wayne are faced with the realization that a mill just doesn’t bring in what it used to.
City Manager John Zech called the meeting on Monday to warn of a possible $2 million loss of revenue, but he said he did not want to spread fear through the ranks of employees or residents.
That’s how the chorus of ‘Touch of Gray’ ends, after all:
“We will get by; we will survive…”
