On the cusp of history

I always tend to get choked up prior to or during momentous occasions.
Today certainly qualifies. Here we are on the brink of history, when many people in this great nation have pinned their hopes on a relative newcomer to national politics and the sweeping message of change that took him to the oval office.
In about an hour or so, we will have a new president, a man unlike any that has come before him.
Today I feel a sense of pride and nearly unparalleled patriotism. And, like many others, a sense of hope.
Strangely, I’m reminded of a recurring line from that old movie ‘Airplane.’ Many of you may remember it, as the plane plummeted through the sky, the passengers had reverted to an atmosphere of chaos and the storm crackled outside. Leslie Neilson’s character popped into the cockpit.
“I just want to say good luck, we’re all counting on you.”
Good luck indeed, Mr. President.
