Some thoughts on the next 'bailout'...

When I talked to U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter yesterday about the economic stimulus proposal, I asked a question that had long burned in the back of my mind:
“Say, you know those bailouts you all have been handing out lately? How do I, as a representative of the newspaper industry, put in for one?” It was one of those jokes with a kernel of truth in it. I would never expect such government help, but our industry, like many others, is in trouble.
“I wouldn’t fly in on my own private jet or anything like that, probably just ride my bike down with a news bag slung over my shoulder,” I added.
“Well, you could always just bundle it up and drive around at six in the morning and throw it in everyone’s bushes,” he joked.
I appreciated the joke. Funny guy, that McCotter. It’s important for everyone to keep his or her sense of humor at a time like this.
For those that didn’t read the story, by the way, McCotter favored a stimulus package that would simpler and less expensive to the taxpayer and brought back more immediate returns.
