It's not OK to cheat

The more I listen to Alex Rodriguez, the more irritated I get.
For those that don’t know, the perennial All-star admitted recently to using performance enhancing drugs during the 2001-2003 seasons, back when he was with the Texas Rangers—and prior to the implementation of the current MLB steroid policy.
“I was under tremendous pressure,” he said. “I felt like I had to perform—and perform at a high level—every day.”
Well, so?
This ranks amongst the most insincere apologies I’ve ever heard. First of all, he says he doesn’t know exactly what he ‘ingested’ that resulted in the positive test. Then he says: well, I was under a lot of pressure, as if that makes it OK.
Well, it doesn’t make it OK. It sends an absolutely horrible message to the thousands of young people that look up to him: that it’s okay to use a crutch if you feel like you’re under a lot of pressure. It’s okay to stretch the rules to give yourself an edge.
I’ve got news for him. Lots of people are under tremendous pressure. Lots of them have to perform at a high level every day and most of them don’t earn a mind-boggling salary while doing it. Try writing a whole newspaper by yourself one day….
Most of us suck it up or turn to other sources to alleviate this pressure—like religion. Hey, it probably won’t make me a multi millionaire, but at least I won’t have to apologize for it later on.
No, I don’t think he’s sorry. I think he’s sorry he got caught. He’s sorry his name is out there connected to it. If he were sorry, he wouldn’t have lied about it in the first place. If he were sorry, he’d give all the money back.
