Good job, Phil

I’ve been to plenty of ‘state of the community’ events during the past 12 years, but the one in Canton Township today was a first.
It was a first for new supervisor Phil LaJoy and it was the first one I ever went to that had its own theme song.
“We’ve got it….going on…”
Alrighty, then. In this day and age, if your municipality has something to sing about you do, indeed, ‘have it going on.’
If LaJoy was at all nervous in following Tom Yack, who delivered these kinds of addresses since time immemorial, he didn’t show it. I like the way he handled the address—although I could have done without the song and dance. His idea: to focus on the positives and rally support for the future.
The township had plenty of successes last year, too. My personal favorite is the opening of the Lower Rouge River Recreational Trail. My biggest surprise was hearing how much economic development the township saw (they had projects that brought in a total of $96 million).
I’m trying to stay optimistic in 2009 and hearing things like that make it a bit easier. Good job, Mr. Supervisor.
