The spambots win

Due to technicalities beyond my control, we were forced to shut down the community forums section on our web site.
This is not, by any means, an attempt to limit comments from readers—let me assure you of that. It’s my hope that you’ll continue to read and post comments on articles.
It was the spam that did it in. I searched for filters; I quested for answers; I installed bans and I deleted, deleted and deleted the stuff. None of this worked and it got to the point where I was spending an hour a day purging the forums of this fiflth—and even our web hosting company complained about it.
Perhaps one day if I can find a better way of making it work, I can start it up again. For now, though, this is a sad victory for the spambots.
