Central overcomes Rockets in soccer
Tempers flared on the soccer field and on the John Glenn bench during the 4-2 loss against Walled Lake Central on Wednesday.
What some team members thought were questionable calls and questionable penalties led to an early exit for some players.
The Rockets led 2-1 at the half until they were called on an unsportsman-like conduct infraction. That allowed Central’s Mark Kerney to score on a penalty shot, knotting the score at 2 with 34:14 remaining in the second half.
About 10 minutes later Corben Titus, from Michael Utberg, scored his second of the day and the eventual winning goal at the 23:51 mark. Titus completed a hat trick when he scored again with 5:02 left. Jordan Anderson assisted on the play. He also scored Central’s first goal of the game with 6:19 left in the first half. Ryan Rivamonte assisted.
Glenn started out strong. Freshman Nelson Kenne, off a pass from senior Nick Lloyd, fired one into the Central goal at 23:28 of the first for a 1-0 Rocket lead. Senior Samer Suleiman, unassisted, made it a 2-1 game for Glenn with 4:51 left in the first half.
John Glenn defeated Walled Lake Western, 4-3, last Monday.
Senior Alex Cabildo scored two goals and had one assist for Glenn. Lloyd and sophomore Khalid Suleiman each scored one goal in the victory.
The Rockets host Salem at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11.
