Canton gymnasts vault by Vassar
Canton gymnasts took nearly every top spot in Saturday’s meet at Vassar to win 134.3-116.25.
Teammates Jessie Murray and Kate Staley tied for first place with each scoring an 8.9. Olivia Stephens scored an 8.5 and Chelsea Selden landed in third with an 8.25.
No one came close to Staley on the bars. She blew away competition with a 9.05. Olivia Stephens and Jessie Murray both scored a 7.9 to tie for second and Chelsea Selden followed in third with a 7.5.
Selden balanced her way to first on the beam with an 8.9. Andrea Houdek and Staley tied for second with an 8.8. Murray was third (8.65).
Murray bounced back with a first place win in the floor exercise with the highest score of the competition—a 9.3. Courtney Ward (8.55) edged out Vassar’s Hillary Opperman (8.5) for second place.
Staley’s solid performance earned her first in the all around wit ha total score of 35.00. Murray finished in second (34.75), Selden in third (32.65) and Houdek fourth (31.85).
Canton’s Kylie Hakala had a great day for the ‘B’ team, placing first on the vault, bars and floor.
Mallory Hudak placed first on the beam, second on vault and floor and first all-around. Samantha O’Flynn placed second on vault and third on floor while Katelyn Rutherford placed second on bars and beam and third on vault.
