Ignition gets revenge, wins home opener

The Detroit Ignition avenged their loss in the championship finale last year when they beat up the Kixx on Saturday.Redemption was in the air at Compuware Arena in Plymouth Township on Saturday.
The Detroit Ignition had a chance to avenge its loss to the Philadelphia KiXX in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) championship finale back in April with a rematch on Saturday in front of a sold-out home crowd.
The Ignition was perfect in the first half, holding the KiXX scoreless. They raced to a 17-6 victory to start the season.
Detroit held to a 9-0 half-time advantage over the defending MISL champs.
Defender Jonathan Greenfield got things rolling for Detroit with the team’s first goal of the 2007-08 campaign. He nailed a two-point shot off of an assist from midfielder Ricardinho at 12:35 of the first quarter.
With one second left in the quarter, forward Hewerton Moreira booted a three-point goal past Philadelphia keeper Peter Pappas to give Detroit a 5-0 lead. Ricardinho notched the assist on the goal.
Moreira struck again at 8:52 of the second period with a two-point goal off an assist from midfielder Vahid Assadpour. Ricardinho scored the final two points of the half on a power-play for a substantial 9-0 lead.
Ricardinho increased the lead more at 9:19 of the third quarter with a two-point shot off an assist from Hewerton.
The KiXX got things going in the third and fourth frames with three unanswered goals to make it an 11-6 game.
Midfielder Tony Donatelli put the first points on the board for Philadelphia with a two-point goal at 12:20 in the third. Forward Aaron Susi notched an assist on the goal.
Philadelphia midfielder Angel Rivillo notched a two-point power play goal at 6:10 in the fourth quarter with an assist from forward Don D’Ambra. Rivillo scored again at 9:14 with a two-point shot off an assist from Susi.
As the quarter came to a close, Philadelphia pulled its goaltender in favor of a sixth attacker.
Ignition defender Droo Callahan and midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos both took advantage of the empty net, each scoring a three-point goal to bring the final score to 17-6.
The KiXX will get another shot at the Ignition when they host Detroit on Saturday. The Ignition returns home to host the New Jersey Ironmen at 4:35 pm on Sunday.
