Northville, Salem, Canton head to regionals

She will compete at regionals with the rest of her team on Saturday at Plymouth HighThe Northville, Salem and Canton gymnastics teams all placed within the top-five in the conference showdown last week and will head to the regional competition at Plymouth High School on Saturday.
Northville’s 10-0 record was the best in the conference and the gymnasts’ season got a lot better when they placed second at the conference meet at Hartland on Thursday.
Northville scored a 141.250 and won the balance beam competition with a 35.4. Cassidy Winter was fourth all around for Northville with a 36.35. Her high score was a 9.35 on beam, good for first place. Northville was without one of its top tumblers, MaKenna Pohl.
Salem finished fourth with a total of 138.725. Katie Koetting placed third all around (36.4). She won first place on the vault with a 9.55.
Canton was fifth with a 138.300 and took third on bars with a 33.7. Senior Jesse Murray was the team’s top performer with a 36.3 in the all around standings for fifth. She won second on the floor with a 9.550 and tied for second on bars with a 9.0.
The Lady Chiefs were without solid performer Cathy Huang. Canton’s Robyn Piwowar (above) earned first place Division Award in vault with a 9.06 average.
