Plymouth split the games. The Plymouth Wildcats split a home doubleheader with the West Bloomfield Lakers on Saturday and improved their record to 14-8 overall.
Plymouth won a claw-biter of a second game, 4-3.
With the score tied, 3-3, the Cats pulled in a run at the bottom of the seventh for the win.
Matt Skubik earned the win in his one inning on the mound. Before Skubik took to the hill, Dan Nadratowski battled through six innings. He gave up three earned runs on four hits—two of them homeruns—while striking out three.
“Dan Nadratowski had a gutsy six innings of work in the nightcap when we needed a lift,” said Plymouth Coach Chuck Adams. “He deserves strong praise for his performance today.
Matt Priebe was a force—nearly perfect—on offense, going 3-for-4 with the team’s only RBI. Kyle Traver was an impressive 2-for-3 with a run scored. David Harvey had the team’s other hit and scored a run. Ronnie Goble and Nadratowski each scored a run.
The first game was a little tougher as the Wildcats fell short with a 5-3 effort.
Priebe was back on the mound after a long hiatus. He struggled at first, giving up three runs in the first, but settled into a nice performance through five frames. Kyle Sanders finished the game.
“I thought our pitchers did an outstanding job today against a good hitting Lakers squad,” Adams said.. “In the opener, it was nice to see Matt Priebe get back into the rotation after a long absence on the hill. After a rocky first, Matt settled down and gave us some quality innings.”
Plymouth answered the Lakers’ three-run first inning with a three-run second. Bloomfield added one in the third and another in the fourth to put the game away.
Traver had a two hits and an RBI in the outing. Travis Mewton had a hit with two RBIs and a run scored. Skubik and Brad Lineberry were both 1-for-3. Skubik and Mike Rose scored the other two runs.
“Overall, it was a great Saturday for high school baseball and a hard fought spit with a quality non-conference opponent,” Adams said. “Stealing a quote from the Stones, ‘You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.”
Plymouth fell to a tough visiting Northville team on Friday. The Mustangs shut out the ‘Cats, 10-0 in six innings.
“When you play a team as talented as Northville is this year, you need to play mistake-free baseball,” Adams said. “Unfortunately for us, we just didn’t do that.”
Plymouth hosts Wayne at 4 p.m. on Thursday and Milford in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
