Lady ‘Stangs hitters clinch division
The Lady Mustang softball club clinched the Western division of the Western Lakes Activities Association with a 7-0 victory over Plymouth on Friday.
Northville is 8-0 in the division and 12-0 in WLAA play and 22-3 overall.
Again the Lady ‘Stangs had a perfect combination of pitching, defense and offense to pull out the win against a pretty good Lady Wildcat squad.
Senior hurler Allison Holmes earned her 11th win by pitching a two-hitter with five strikeouts. She is now 11-3 on the season.
The offense was as consistent as it has been all year.
Senior Jenna Dumbleton had two doubles and scored twice. Junior Mariel Wilson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Senior Alex Kaszuba was 2-for-4 and scored once while senior Kelsey Whelan had a single with two RBIs and a run scored.
Northville scored five in the second inning. Mary Rounsifer scored the first run on an error. Whelan knocked in Kaszuba—who got on with a single—and senior Megan Hofmeister. Wilson singled in Whelan and scored on an error to make it 5-0.
After a quiet third fame junior pinch hitter Nara DeMuro hit a sacrifice fly to score Wilson and move Dumbleton to third. Dumbleton scored on Mary Rounsifer’s sacrifice fly to finish off the scoring.
“Allison pitched well today and the defense really backed her up,” said Northville Coach Teryn Chrzanowski.
The girls were hitting the ball hard and putting it in play to make things happen. It was a great day because the girls just clinched the division title with this win. They’re excited to know they get another shot at the conference championship.”
Northville beat Canton for the second time, 7-1, last Tuesday.
Holmes earned the win again. She struck out six and gave up five hits.
Mary Rounsifer hit a bases-loaded double in the first to score Wilson, senior Brittany Birdsall and sister Sarah Rounsifer. Kaszuba doubled Mary Rounsifer in for a 4-0 lead.
Sarah Rounsifer nailed a two-RBI single in the fourth to score Wilson and Dumbleton. Mary Rounsifer singled in freshman Karly Fisher, a courtesy runner for Sarah Rounsifer.
Canton scored their lone run in the sixth inning.
Northville hosts Walled Lake Western at 4 p.m. on Friday.
