Ignition expands roster
The Detroit Ignition indoor soccer team agreed to terms with two more players last week, expanding the club’s inaugural season roster.
The club agreed to terms with midfielder Ricardinho and veteran defender Matt Johnson.
Both were selected in the 2006 league expansion draft.
“Ricardinho is one of the games brightest young stars and Matt Johnson provides experience, knowledge, and leadership along our backline.” said Ignition President Greg Bibb.
A three-year veteran of the Major Indoor Soccer League, Ricardinho appeared in all 30 games scoring 11 goals and registering 13 assists as a member of the California Cougars in 2005-06. Ricardinho also spent time with the Milwaukee Wave during the 2004-05 campaign where he helped them win the league title. Ricardinho has 71 points in 87 career games played.
Matt Johnson, an eight-year veteran of professional indoor soccer, collected five points and 10 blocks playing in 20 games for the Chicago Storm last season.
Johnson will add coaching duties to his role with the Ignition, serving as the team’s first assistant coach.
“My experience and knowledge of the league will give Coach Mark Pulisic and our players a better idea of how we want to prepare and compete against the other MISL teams,” Johnson said.
The Detroit Ignition will kick-off the team’s inaugural season at Compuware Sports Arena on Saturday, November 4.
