After two years as the head coach at Romulus, Northville resident Matt Ladach took over the head coaching position at Northville High School where he teaches.

Matt Ladach, the Northville Mustangs new Head Football Coach, is ready to lead Northville into the future.

Ladach, Head Coach at Romulus High School during the last two seasons, said he was reluctant to leave Romulus even though he is resident of and a teacher in Northville.

“As one might imagine-I had mixed emotions. I worked extremely hard to lead the Romulus football program in a direction I felt was best ethically and athletically,” he said. “The players adopted our philosophy, and—despite our record—we were seeing positive results. The future in Romulus is bright; leaving a fine group of young men with the talent and work ethic that they have made my decision extremely difficult.”

Ladach has jumped back and forth between Romulus and Northville during his coaching career, but says he has wanted the head coach position at Northville since 2000 when he was a teacher and freshman football coach at Northville High School.

“I had to make the best decision for my family and myself. I have been a teacher in Northville since 2000, we live in Northville, and my children attend Northville Public Schools,” Ladach said. “We are committed to the school district and the community as a whole. I am very excited about the opportunity.”

Athletic Director Bryan Masi said Ladach fits the qualities he sought in a head coach.

“Some of our best athletes were not playing football. Matt works well with other coaches and programs so that kids will come out for football even if it may not be their primary sport,” Masi said. “Kids want to play for Matt.”

Also, Ladach’s coaching staff has a great resume.

“I have been very fortunate to put together a tremendous coaching staff, some of which were on Coach (Ryan) Hockman’s staff and some that I have brought in from other football programs,” Ladach said. “Five of our varsity coaches have had head coaching experience at the varsity level, and the other three have served as a varsity coordinator, a sub-varsity level head coach, or both.

“I believe that I am stepping into a good situation,” he added. “Our kids have been well coached over the years, and I will work to maintain that tradition. I have incorporated “The Fist” into the program, and our players are buying into it. “The fist represents five keys to becoming a champion: hard work, maximum effort, toughness, persistence, and the value of competition.”

Ladach and his new coaching staff plan to lead Northville by example.

“I am proud to say that I have surrounded myself with quality individuals that epitomize great character,” Ladach said. “Our players will be better young men because of the values they learn from their coaches.”
