Northville splashes to fourth in front of Salem and Canton at Rock Maurer Invite
Farmington Hills Mercy swimmers paddled their way to first at the Rock Maurer Invitational hosted at Salem High School on Saturday.
Ann Arbor Pioneer and Stevenson followed in second and third respectively. Northville splashed to fourth with 140 points, followed by host Salem (132) and Canton (109) in fifth and sixth places.
Northville top-3 winners
Northville’s 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Leah Erlandson, senior Nicole Mitts, sophomore Faith Miller and senior Kara Folas placed third in a time of 2:05.80.
The team of senior Ann-Quay Rushing, junior Kelly Burford, Folas and senior Sam Curry landed in third place in the first 200-yard freestyle relay event in 1:54.46. The second 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Shannon Lohman, Miller, junior Becca Meyers and senior Jessica Weber finished their race third in 1:47.74.
Weber finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.90 and
Burford was third in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:35.08. Curry finished the first 50-yard freestyle race in 28.03 for third place. Freshman Sarah Garrity placed third in the second 50-yard freestyle event in 27.91 and Miller finished third in the third 50-yard freestyle race in 27.76.
Miller was third in the first of four 100-yard butterfly events, finishing in 1:07.66 while freshman Susan Morris placed third in the fourth 100-yard butterfly race in 1:01.99. Weber was third in the last 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 56:32.
Salem top-3 placers
Sophomore Emily Nelson won the top spot in the third 100-yard backstroke event with a blazing speed of 1:03.34. Senior Whitney Aumiller placed second in the final 100-yard backstroke race with a time of 1:01.81.
Aumiller headed the 200-yard medley relay team with freshman Lauren Seroka, senior Emily Bair and Nelson that placed third in 1:56.91. Aumiller was also third in the final 200-yard freestyle event in 2:00.15 and Nelson was third in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.58. Seroka added another third place for the Lady Rocks in the final 200-yard IM race in 2:14.80 and was second in the final 500-yard freestyle event, finishing in 5:17.81.
Senior Katie Koetting was third in the top division of 1-meter diving with a finals score of 382.65.
Senior Kristen Clemans wrapped up third place in the first round of the 100-yard butterfly race in 1:12.28 while freshman Irene Li placed third in the third 100-yard butterfly and Bair was third in the final 100-yard butterfly with a 1:04.26.In the second of three 500-yard freestyle races sophomore Brenna Shortal placed third in 5:51.10.
Salem’s top 400-yard freestyle relay team of Seroka, Bair, Nelson and Aumiller took third in the final event of the day in a time of 3:49.11.
Canton top three winners
Canton sophomore Kari Schmitt was the Lady Chiefs big winner on the day, placing third in two events. She finished the top-flight of 50-yard freestyle race in 26.69 and the third 100-yard freestyle race in 57.03.
Junior Christine O-Keefe placed third in the second 100-yard freestyle event in a time of 1:01.04.
Sophomore Maddy McLean was third in the first round of 100-yard breaststroke events with a time of 1:19.14 and sophomore Kelly Bedro was second in the next series in 1:17.74. Sophomore Sara Krebs was third in the final round with a 1:15.50.
Sophomore Catherine Huang finished third in the first group of 1-meter divers with a finals score of 189.60 while sophomore Robyn Piwowar was third in the second group with a finals score of 263.90.
