The votes were tallied and the Kensington Lakes Activities Association’s All-Kensington Conference football team was selected last week at the coaches meeting following the final week of the regular season.

There were 35 players from Journal Land selected to the All-Conference roster.

Canton led all teams with 11 total players followed by Plymouth with nine. Northville added six; John Glenn, four; Salem, three; and Wayne two.

Canton:
The Chiefs, headed into the second round of playoffs after a big 35-28 victory over cross-campus rival Plymouth on Friday, will do so with 11 highly regarded players.

Leading the way for Canton is Justin Sneddon, a senior offensive lineman. Sneddon was also chosen as the South Division Offensive Player of the Year.

Other seniors included defensive backs Nick Sweda and David Wilcox; running back Kiere Daniels; and defensive tackles Pat Madish and Jason Hu. Juniors making the cut were quarterback Kevin Delapaz; offensive linemen Carter Staffeld and Alex Dixon; running back Adam Payter, and tight end Dakota Dark-Bird.
Defensive back Donnie Barlow, linebacker Bryan Gerst, center Kyle Dunleavy and tight end Todd Turfe made the honorable mention list.

Plymouth:
The Wildcats had the third most players selected to the All-Conference crew, including one of the best senior linebacking units in the area.

Ronnie Goble, Connor Martin and Travis Mewton were a necessity on the A-list of players.

“He’s going to play on Saturday somewhere next year,” said Plymouth Coach Mike Sawchuk of Goble after a stellar performance as a linebacker and tight end in the pre-district game against Canton on Friday. “I have a lot of good kids, but he and Connor Martin just worked their butts off in the weight room and they worked their butts off in school and worked their butts off in practice. Good things happen when you work your butt off and do the right thing.”

Martin was selected as the South Division Defensive Player of the Year.

Other seniors included were running back Terrance Guthridge; wide receivers Zach Hamed and Alex Minch; and offensive lineman Jacob Gilbert. Matt Priebe, an offensive lineman, was the only junior named to the squad while kicker Kyle Brindza was the only sophomore.

Defensive back Kelly Waite, offensive lineman Keith Choma, defensive lineman Brennen Beyer and quarterback Matt Skubik were honorable mention selections.

Northville:
The Mustangs turned around a 1-8 season last year to a 5-4 on in 2008 just missing the playoffs under first year coach Matt Ladach.
A solid group of seniors led an impressive defense this year.

Adam Fuhrman and Kyle Hnatiuk led the way on the defensive line with Josh Pratt at linebacker and Anthony Sergi at defensive back. Fuhrman and Hnatiuk combined for 82 total tackles. Hantiuk led the team with five sacks. Pratt offered 52 total tackles and recovered a fumble and Sergi accounted for 56 total tackles and four interceptions.

Senior quarterback Matt Kreager was a solid leader for the offense. He finished as the team’s second leading rusher with 308 yards on 51 carries and was 66-of-115 (57 percent) passing for 902 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Junior linebacker Jake Weddle was the only underclassman chosen for Northville and blatantly deserved it. He led the team in tackles with 64—26 solo—and forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. His performance earned the Central Division Defensive Player of the Year.

Linebackers Sean Sassaman and Pat Keady; tight end Ryan Gerblick; and wide receiver Kris Baumgardner made the honorable mention list.

John Glenn:
The Rockets had a roller coaster of a season this year under new head coach Tim Hardin. Stellar play from four seniors earned them spots on the All-Conference roster.

Quarterback Jerome Scales proved every week that he was a legitimate threat by ground and air and almost single-handedly won the City Championship against Wayne. Scales received solid protection from offensive lineman Jake Morris. Sheldon Hankins, a linebacker and defensive back Kyren Boyd, were also standouts for Glenn.

Defensive end Steve Smith, offensive lineman Jay Bloomer, linebacker Steven Murphy and defensive lineman Chase Glover made honorable mention.

Salem:
Salem nearly turned the corner this year but still finished a disappointing 1-8 for the season.

Seniors Anthony Mullins at running back, Heath Parling under center and lineman Andrew Grabowski were the heart of the Rocks’ offense this year and were rewarded for it.
Tight end Justin Bashi, linebacker Austin Root, running back Zach Sponseller and defensive lineman Al Covington took honorable mention.

Wayne:
The Zebras struggled to a 1-8 season under new head coach Kevin Weber. However senior defensive end Ramsey Hart and senior running back Richard Haley turned in notable performances and earned the respect of coaches across the conference.

Wide receiver CJ Johnson; linebackers Matt Mills and Alex Bledsoe and offensive lineman Eric Story earned honorable mention.
