On the Agenda

Canton Supervisor Tom Yack said yesterday that he was disappointed in the roughly 83 percent of township voters that chose not to vote in the special school bond election Tuesday.

“It is a reflection, I think, of a community’s interest in their government,” he said.

If that’s true, I wonder how many of you will read beyond this point. What follows is a preview of next week’s municipal meetings in Canton.

The Canton Planning Commission and Board of Trustees will each host a regular meeting at the township administration building at 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

On Monday, planning commissioners will hear public comment for a proposed amendment to its future land use map concerning property owned by Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. The district is looking eventually to sell off this parcel, south of Joy Road and west of Beck Road, and others, according to Community Planner Jeff Goulet.

Also on the commission’s agenda: a public hearing for a zoning ordinance text amendment, which would allow cell phone towers in residentially-zoned districts as a special land use; a public hearing for rezoning request for a parcel on Cherry Hill Road. It would change from a rural residential designation to an R-2, single family residential designation; and commissioners are expected to remove from the table the site plan for a new liquor store on Haggerty Road. The commission tabled it last August.

The full agenda is available here.

On Tuesday, the board of trustees will likely approve site plans for a new hotel near Lifetime Fitness, on Haggerty Road south of Ford.

The Leisure Services Department will ask the trustees to approve $26,299.50 worth of exterior and interior signage for The Village Theater including a new welcome sign, display cabinets and directional signage.

After 13 items on the general calendar, the trustees will host a study session regarding the tax assessment process.

As always, the agendas are subject to change.
