Friday, March 16, 2007 | 6:28 PMMark your calendarsFiled under: development, meetings, oakwood April 2. That’s the date (if the Canton Planning Commission approves it at their next meeting) when they’ll pack the house at the Village Theater to see a different kind of show: Oakwood Healthcare System will return to present new plans for a medical campus at the northwest corner of Geddes and Beck. The currently vacant site is part of an existing Planned Development Agreement with Singh Homes, and many nearby residents want any new buildings there to be strictly residential. One question arises: is the Village Theater big enough? The theater itself has 400 seats, and there were easily more people who attended last time. And after that meeting, resident Tom Cinzori promised to bring even more neighbors whenever commissioners took up the issue again. I talked to Jeff Goulet, community planner, who pointed out a few things: First, the Summit on the Parkway is unavailable on that date. Second, the theater has lots of overflow space where people will be able to watch and hear the proceedings on closed circuit TV monitors and lobby speakers. The theater is more practical than any of the high schools because it will be easier for the township to record the meeting for the public record. Planning commissioners will sit on the theater stage and when individuals speak they’ll be able to use one of two microphones on stands in the aisles. It may not be the perfect solution, but hopefully nobody will be left standing and stewing outdoors like last time, which everyone agreed was a bad situation. |
