He's back...

Trustee, marine and Canton resident Todd Caccamo, now back from the war in Iraq, is profiled this week in The Canton Eagle. He had plenty to say about combat, family and coming home. Here’s a few quotes that were cut for space:

On his ever-changing feelings about the conflict:
“I’m always asked, ‘So, what do you think of the Iraq War?’ Ask me now, I’ll tell you one thing. In five minutes, I could probably tell something different.”

On Iraqi attitudes toward US forces: “There is a small percentage (of Iraqis) that probably want us there. That’s certainly a minority, and this is my opinion only. Those who don’t want to kill us, I think, certainly want us to leave.”

On whether anti-US sentiment discouraged him:
“The security of our families and the United States to me trumps any other ancillary feelings I may have or any feelings someone else may have. And that may sound selfish, but tough, because I would be wary of someone else from another country that didn’t have the same kind of nationalistic feelings.”

On his reaction to media reports of the conflict:
“The press releases are coming out of the White House, you know, and we would erxperience something that may or may not tell the whole story, and that’s frustrating.”

On life with his newborn son, Carter:
“I’m so used to the no-kids lifestyle, and to come home now it’s like: Boom, it’s already here. It’s here in force.”

One more thing: a coming home party is planned for Wednesday night, from 7-10 p.m., at Bailey’s Pub and Grille, located at 1777 Canton Center Road in Canton. The public is invited.
