In any case, grab a shovel...

Filed under: events, pets, police, service

Clean your environment, protect your home and watch where you step.

That’s the gist of three events going on Saturday in Canton:

Friends of the Rouge: River Day

Saturday is The Day for Rouge River fans all along the watershed. In Canton, volunteers wanting to help restore and beautify the Lower Rouge should head to the area off Morton Taylor Road near Michigan Avenue. A $3,075 grant from the Great Lakes Commission and funded through the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality will pay for 49 percent of the River Day costs, according to the township.

The event lasts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Parking is along the side of Morton Taylor Road or in area subdivisions.

Canton Public Safety: Home Security Seminar

From 10 a.m. to noon, the Canton Police Department will discuss how to secure your home, with or without an alarm system. Nichole Hamilton, a fire inspector, will give advice on fire prevention, as well. You have to call (734) 394-5325 to reserve a spot.

Plymouth/Canton Kiwanis: Tails and Trails 2007

A fundraiser my whole family will enjoy! I’ll be there at Heritage Park, with Scout in tow! (Or is that the other way around?)

If you didn’t register, they still allow walk-ups for $20 per dog.
