It begins...

As promised, traffic was reduced to one lane in each direction Wednesday on Ford Road between Sheldon and Canton Center roads in Canton.

“The back-ups have begun,” said Todd Zilicik, Canton Township staff engineer.

Zilicik advised seeking an alternate route, as westbounders were stacked as far back as Morton Taylor Road last night.

This is round two for this project, which was originally supposed to be finished last year. Workers are replacing the northern half of a bridge that carries Ford over Fellows Creek.

The bad news last year was that Warren Road wasn’t a good alternate, because it was under construction, too.

Happily, that’s not the case this year. One possible detour hit a snag today, though. When I drove by at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, the streetlights at Michigan Avenue and Canton Center Road were not functioning.

Deep breaths…
