‘Snow fashioned’ holiday set
First Congregational Church of Wayne will be the site of a Snow Fashioned Christmas from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. today and tomorrow.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and dinner from 5 until 7 p.m. at the 63rd annual event. Cost for the meals is $8 for adults and $4 for children 3-11.
Featured will be a Christmas shop, country store, attic treasures, a boutique, a bookstore, a specialties shop, a coffee shop and aprons and hand made goods for sale.
The church is located at 2 Towne Square in Wayne.
Open House planned
The fourth facility of First Step will be the site of an open house from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday in Wayne.
A spokesman said the event is a chance to thank supporters and update the public on progress in the work with victims of domestic and sexual violence.
The event is free and open to the public and will feature a free pancake breakfast, a tour of the new Wayne building and a variety of children’s activities.

Holiday auction date set
The Wayne Chamber of Commerce Annual Holiday Auction/Luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at Wayne Tree Manor.
The cost is $15 per person and reservations are necessary.

Dance lessons offered
The Wayne Senior Activity Center is offering line dancing classes for seniors, 50 and older, from 1-2:30 p.m. every Friday.
The lessons are slow and easy to lean from 1-1:30 and progress in difficulty as the class continues.
The cost is $1 per half hour and drop-ins are welcome.

Euchre games on hand
Players are sought for the euchre games that take place every Tuesday, from 1:45 until 4 p.m., at the Wayne Senior Activity Center.

Chair exercises offered
Sit and Be Fit, a chair exercise class, will be offered from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Mondays at the Wayne Senior Activity Center.
The class will combine resistance and stretching activities to increase strength, bone density and energy. The class is designed to improve balance, coordination, mental alertness, muscle flexibility and joint range of motion.

Used book sale set
The Friends of the William P. Faust Library will host a used book sale from 3-7 p.m. Nov. 19, and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21.
The Thursday sale is a preview for friends members only, although a spokesman said buyers can join the groups at the preview event.
A special Holiday Bag Sale is planned for Saturday will allow buyers to fill a brown paper grocery bag for $6. Buyers must bring their own bags or reusable Friends bags will be on sale for $2.
On Sunday, the Bag Sale price is $4.

Hardcover books, DVDs and CDs are priced at $1. Large paperbacks are 50 cents and small paperbacks, videos, cassettes and records are only 25 cents.
All funds generated will be used to support library programs.

Salvation Army donations sought
National Storage Center in Westland is accepting donations of non-perishable food and new, unwrapped toys for the local Salvation Army.
The center is located at 39205 Ford Road in Wastland and is open from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Legislator sets coffee hour
State Rep. Richard LeBlanc (D-Westland) will meet residents for an informal talk from 9 until 10:30 a.m. and from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 9 at the William P. Faust Public Library of Westland.
Citizens are welcome to visit with LeBlanc to discuss issues or concerns.

Holiday card party planned
To help with debt reduction, SS Simon and Jude Church congregants will host a Holiday Card Party from 6:30 until 10 p.m. Nov. 20 at the church.
There will be door and table prizes, a 50-50 drawing and a light meal and snacks.
Tickets are $8 and the event is open to the public.

Sock it to mayor
Mayor William Wild has joined the Westland Salvation Army and the Wayne/Westland School District in a sock drive to aid those in need.
Wild has asked members of the community to bring new, un-used socks, no matter the cost, to Westland City Hall between Monday, Nov. 16 and Friday, Dec. 4. He has also asked PTA organizers to coordinate the collection of sock within their buildings during the month of November.
The drive was inspired by local author Nancy Spinelle’s book, The Tale of Christmas Stockings.
Spinelle has agreed to read her story to children in the district, if requested.
All socks will be donated to the Salvation Army and distributed to local families in need.

Seniors celebrate early
The Village of Westland, a senior living community, will host a pre-Thanksgiving party from noon until 4 p.m. Nov. 7.
Football games will be shown on the big screen, there will be tailgate games, a piano singer, an apron display, food stations and an appearance by Bob Allison.

Church marks Golden Jubilee
SS Simon $ Jude Church will mark 50 years serving the community with a golden jubilee mass celebrated by Bishop Daniel E. Flores, including mariachi music provided by Salvador Torres and Mariachi Mexico at 4:30 Saturday, Dec. 12.
The celebration will include a dinner dance with a cash bar at 6 p.m. Adult tickets are $12 and tickets for children 10 and younger are $6. The Mexican meal will be catered by Las Brisas in Detroit.

Quilting classes offered
Plymouth Westland Grange 389 members offer quilting classes from 6:30-8:30 p.m. every Thursday at the Friendship Center on Newburgh Road.
Sharon Strebbing will teach both beginning and advanced quilting.
Cost for the classes is $5 but there is no fee for those doing social quilting.
Library aides job seekers
Librarians at the William P. Faust Public Library are hosting several job seekers labs during which they will help unemployed residents create a resume in Microsoft Work, file for unemployment with the state.

Fibromyalgia group meets
The Metro Fibromyalgia and CFS support group meets from 1-3 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of every month at the Merriman Baptist Church, south of Ford Road.
The group sponsors speakers and a lending library. There is no fee to attend although donations are accepted.
