Wayne issues annual golf challenge
Bill Hawley has once again issued a challenge to area golfers.
“The Wayne golfers say ‘bring it on’,” Hawley said, issuing a challenge to the ‘swingers’ throughout the area who traditionally take part in the Wayne Golf Challenge.
“Last year, Westland golfers edged out the teams from Canton, Wayne and Livonia in the city challenge,” Hawley said.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and Aug. 1 at the newly redesigned Fellows Creek Golf Club in Canton. Entry fee is $60 per player, and does not include a cart rental.
Hawley said that each city must have at least five golfers to be entered into the challenge. There are also individual awards based on the flights and divisions from the first day of competition. The event is open to both men and women, seniors and super seniors.
“This is not a tournament for only the best golfers,” Hawley said. Everyone can compete against someone of their own ability, and play like the pros,” he said.
