FeedsGarden club hosts walk through fundraiser
Members of the Wayne Garden Club said their next fundraiser should be a blooming good time.
The club, which is affiliated with the Federated Garden Club of Michigan, is sponsoring their annual garden walk next Saturday.
The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23—rain or shine, according to Bev Woodard, co-chair of the event.
“We have some old favorites and some new gardens this year,” she said.
There will be 10 yards in all featured on the walk, including the extensive gardens behind the Prince of Peace Church on Glenwood Road. There are eight separate gardens there alone, according to Woodard. She said the group got the idea to include the church through one of its members.
“Each garden has a different theme to it,” Woodard said. It’s really intriguing.”
Sharon Arthur, a long-time member of the club, will also open her garden for the event. Hers is always a popular stop, according to Woodard.
“People love to walk through her garden,” she said.
Tickets for the event are $7 in advance or $10 on the day of the event. They can be purchased through garden club members or at the Wayne Library and Wayne City Hall. Tickets will be sold at Goudy Park on June 23—that’s where the event gets started.
The garden walk is a fundraiser for the group, which provides plants for municipal sites. They dress up the Wayne Historical Museum, maintain the rose gardens in Goudy Park. They also plant flowers in the courtyard of the Hope Nursing Home courtyard every year.
“All of the money goes right back into the community,” said Woodard, who added that the club is also willing to take on other tasks. “We’re open to suggestions,” she said.
