Kimberly Loveless, a life-long Wayne resident, opened The Acorn Shop in 2005 with her husband, Brad.

The owner of a popular Wayne store is recovering after she was assaulted during a robbery Tuesday night.

Kimberly Loveless, who owns the Acorn Shop on Wayne Road, is resting in an area hospital.

“She’s going to be okay, but she’s pretty shaken up,” said. Lt. Jason Wright of the Wayne Police Department.

The incident took place at about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, he said. She had been about to lock up the store when an African American man about six foot tall forced his way through the door, according to Wright. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt and had a black scarf covering his face.

“He forced her back into the store,” Wright said.

The suspect stabbed the victim several times, according to Wright, grabbed her purse and then fled on foot. He didn’t take anything else from the store.

Loveless was able to call 911, he said. She was transported to Oakwood Annapolis Hospital and later to the University of Michigan Hospital.

Wright said police called in an on-duty K-9 officer to aid in the search for the suspect.

Mrs. Tucker:

I’m so sorry to hear about the stabbing.
May God bless Kimberly and her husband and family.
I went there once. She was so friendly. I was so happy to see a nice shop in town. I was planning on going in for some Christmas shopping. Then this attack.
May God help the police to find this ruthless stabber who needs to be found, prosecuted and stopped.
