Westland murder suspect in custody
A Dearborn Heights man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old Westland woman early Wednesday morning.
According to Lt. Dan Karrick of the Westland Police Department, police were summoned to the 1900 block of Dunn Court in the Millpoint subdivision, by the victim’s parents who were concerned when their daughter had not returned from a later night walk.
“We responded about 4:48 a.m. on a report of a missing girl,” said Karrick.
At the home, police met with the parents of 22-year-old Laci Green. According to Karrick, Green’s parents told police that their daughter’s 25-year-old ex-boyfriend had come over and there was an argument between them about the break-up. Green then went for a walk, and had not returned.
The parents told police that they searched for their daughter for a couple of hours prior to contacting police and enlisted the aid of her ex-boyfriend, who was at the house, to help in the search.
During the ensuing search, police discovered Green’s body in a common area near the intersection of Hawley and Glenwood roads. The cause of death was not immediately identifiable, but police believe it to have been homicide. Karrick indicated that a report is expected from the Coroner’s office later this week.
Police also began searching for Green’s ex-boyfriend.
“He’s the one we believe was responsible,” said Karrick. “We ended up finding him in the subdivision. He is currently in custody.”
Police are currently preparing for a meeting with a member of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to determine what charges the suspect could face. Karrick indicated that they anticipate receiving a response by tomorrow. The man’s name has not been released pending arraignment.
Officers are also investigating allegations of possible prior domestic problems.
