Suspect sought in armed robbery
Westland police continue to search for the man responsible for an armed robbery that took place outside an area bank Saturday night.
A 42-year-old woman contacted the Westland Police Department just before 11p.m. on May 3 to report that she had been robbed at gunpoint outside of the Chase Bank located at 31311 Cherry Hill Road in Westland.
According to Lt. Dan Karrick of the Westland Police Department, the woman—an employee at the nearby Burger King restaurant off of the intersection of Cherry Hill and Merriman roads—told police that she was outside the bank about to make a money drop of the funds collected at the restaurant when she was startled by a man with a gun. The man allegedly pointed the firearm at the woman to demand the money, which she surrendered without argument.
“He fled east on foot,” said Karrick.
The robber, who made off with approximately $1,800, is described as a black male who stood about 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighed about 160 pounds and was dressed in a black scarf and dark color clothing. No approximate age was given.
The woman, who was uninjured, drove back to the restaurant and contacted police via the business phone.
If located and charged, Karrick said the suspect would likely face armed robbery charges.
“Armed robbery is a life felony,” he said. “If he is charged and convicted of armed robbery, he could serve up to life (in prison).”
Westland police are currently working on obtaining photographs or video footage of the suspected robber.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to contact the Westland Police Department at (734) 722-9600.
